The distance between Africa and Europe is 14 kilometres.
I am a salaried philosopher. I make my living as a Professor in the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy at Birkbeck: the College in the University of London devoted to provide higher education for working people who study mainly in the evening, and where I served a Head of the Philosophy Department until 2017. In my earlier incarnation as a philosophical researcher at Birkbeck and at Cambridge, I have studied the interpretation and criticism of contested ideas in moral and political thought, such as 'reason', 'objectivity', 'autonomy', 'impartiality', 'indifference', 'detachment' and 'responsibility'. Much of my current work is focused on various forms of contingency as they apply to one or more of the normative categories above.
